Finalist: Startups for Good Challenge at the Social Good Summit

em[POWER] selected as one of the eight finalists for the Startups for Good Challenge at the Social Good Summit presented by Mashable, the United Nations Foundation and 92Y. “From life-changing technologies that reduce poverty and disease to online volunteerism for busy professionals, the Startups For Good Challenge contestants proved they had more than just a great business idea: They also are working to make a positive impact on the world.”

em[POWER] Rutgers Chapter Recieves Outstanding Service Award

On Sunday, April 24th, 2011, the Rutgers chapter of the Thaakat Foundation had a benefit banquet titled “Heroes Among Us”. At the event, several student organizations, including the em[POWER] Rutgers Chapter, were recognized for their work in local and international communities. Pictured above is the award received by two members from the Rutgers Chapter, Tammy Hsu and Henry Chao.

All proceeds from the night’s event went towards Thaakat’s “Project Greenlight India”, where they are implementing a sustainable system of solar-powered LED lanterns to provide light to a poor village called Jahwar.
